What if it
rains?
This is a rain or shine event. Tents are set up to
provide cover if it rains. They are positioned so
you can have a good view of the stage. The stage is
also covered so the
musicans will stay dry.
What services
will be
available?
There will be food and porta potties available at
the farm.
What kind of
food is
available at the concert?
The Volunteer Ellston Fire Department will be
selling smoked Iowa pork sandwiches, sides, and pop
to raise funds for the Volunteer Ellston Fire
Department. They are delicious. Also, the Ellston
Library Committee will be fundraising by selling
desserts.
Is there
camping
available?
Yes, you're allowed to pitch a tent in the Hynek
Tree Farm nursery the night of the
show. Porta potties and water from any of the
hydrants will be available. There is also overnight
camping allowed in the city park of Ellston, IA.
Nearby state parks
include Nine Eagles in Decatur City, IA and 3 mile
lake in Afton, IA. Also,
if you're looking for something fancier, Lakeside
Casino in
Osceola, IA offers camping and lodging, as does the
Mount Ayr Inn in Mount Ayr, IA.
Are dogs
allowed?
Yes, as long as they are kept under control, don't
bother anyone at the
show, and are cleaned up after.
What should I
bring ?
Lawn chair or blanket, a jacket, and old shoes if
you're participating in Running
of the Trees 5K. Coolers are allowed.
What will the
weather
be like?
Hopefully sunny. At night however, it gets a lot
cooler in the country than in
the city during this time of year, so bring a
jacket.
Are those
girls in
the band Pumptown the same ones who mow my lawn
at Sun Valley Lake?
Yes.
Is this
festival
being held on the farm on the hill on the east
side of Sun Valley Lake?
Yes, in the yard by the grey Victorian House.
Can I buy

the gate?
Yes, we'll accept cash and check on the day of the
show.

What is Farmer
Song
the Musical?
Farmer Song the Musical is a play about a couple's
struggle to keep
their farm during the 1980's set in Ellston, Iowa
written by Joe and
Angie Hynek. Farmer Song the Musical is a 2006
Kennedy Center American
College Theater Festival award winner and was
performed at the 2007 New
York International Fringe Festival at the Theater
for New Drama. Farmer
Song the Musical is available for production for
regional and community
